Stephanie Cummings is a queer, Japanese-American artist and technical jeweler. Trained in both the visual arts and environmental science, she transforms lived experience into jewelry defined by playful defiance and fluid resilience. Her design philosophy is rooted in her Buddhist upbringing and her tenure with Greenpeace, merging mechanical precision with a poetic, intentional approach to form.
With a foundation in fine arts, Cummings’ career includes a notable 2015 exhibition at Art Basel Miami in partnership with the Lonely Whale Foundation. GIA-trained in CAD/CAM 3D design and engineering in 2019, she specializes in creating production-ready forms. She has been selected for the 2026 Mentoro x WJA Jewelry & Watches New York Cohort and was a 2024 WJA Jewelry Loupe Project mentee under the guidance of Michele Lau.
Stephy Ai is a creative process born from the impulse to give structural form to intangible feeling.
As an artist, I am fascinated by the way love actually shows up in life - not just in the bliss, but in the heartbreaks and the messy spaces in between.
My middle name, Ai, translates to “love”, so maybe this was always in the cards.
